if you're a viper you will find this irresistable
Thanks for uploading this. Capturing a large ensemble's sound is always challenging to say the least and this recording is as good as an audience recording will get. This show was stupefying in its splendor and this recording captures that much. 1,200 people bought tickets, some 8 or 900 returned after the evacuation for the tornado warning (or whatever that was). Karen Quinn was the only missing original viper and this was the first appearance of Brett Hughes on guitar since NYE 1998 at the old Higher Ground in Winooski. Also the first time Zach Tonneson plays with 9/10ths of the original post-Woogmaster band. Brett adds a huge sonic layer onto their pre-Lap Hen material, what a treat to see him in this setting again! Zach allows Michael to stay on the baritone sax throughout and the two trombones create an orchestral sound unique to this special souped-up edition of the ONE AND ONLY viperHouse!
Song clarification: Don't Worry Now is a Thelonious Monk composition that's actually called "Later On" and does not appear on any official viperHouse release. "Sunny" and "Buffalo Bar" are reversed. "Last Night" is actually "Last Light" and appear on the Lap Hen live Common Ground release. "Lovers" is actually "Lover's Desire > I'll Wait For You," the latter being a Sun Ra composition.
5 stars for performance, 4 for recording but that's because I'm eagerly anticipating a SBD from the MadTech in the near future. Rounding it up to a 5 because the event was so magnificent and now everybody can get a sonic glimpse of what it was like....
